Volunteer with our Kettle campaign

The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Campaign is a fundraising effort that occurs each year during the Christmas season.

Kettles are found in nearly 2,000 locations across Canada and are an opportunity for the public to donate whatever funds they can to support the work of The Salvation Army during the Christmas season and throughout the year.

Volunteer opportunities

There are many ways for volunteers to share their time, skills, and compassion in support of our community.

Whether you’re interested in serving regularly or helping when you’re able, each opportunity below plays an important role in making a meaningful difference.

Lunch and friends

Lunch cook
To provide on-going leadership, assistance and support to The Salvation Army’s Lunch meal programme.
Lunch server
To provide assistance to the cook doing food prep, serving the Lunch meal, and assist with kitchen clean up. Interacting with clients in a pleasant and respectful manner.
Kitchen clean-up
Using safe and hygienic dishwashing practices to clean dishes and tableware, pots and pans and other similar items; putting away these items back to their proper storage place; wiping down counters.
Dining hall set-up
In the dining hall set up tables, chairs, coffee, and clean tables prior to lunch service.

In the dining hall clean tables and chairs; put away tables, chairs, coffee after lunch service.

Food bank

Food bank general worker
Assisting in organizing the food storage room; repackaging food items as needed; pack grocery bags for distribution; distributing grocery bags and produce on Food Bank Day.
Bread and produce driver
Pickup bread and produce from store donors. Assisting in sorting, repackaging, and organizing the bread and produce donations for distribution. Interacting with clients in a pleasant and respectful manner.

Assisting in pickup, sorting, repackaging, and organizing the bread and produce donations for distribution. Interacting with clients in a pleasant and respectful manner.

Emergency services

Emergency disaster relief services team captain
Planning and initiating the EDRS programme in cooperation with the Community Ministries Coordinator; scheduling EDRS team members; ensuring proper Food Safe procedures are followed.
Emergency disaster relief services sandwich makers and servers
Making sandwiches; light kitchen clean-up (wiping down counters, dish washing, putting items away in their proper storage place); serving soup, sandwiches, and beverages from the EDS Vehicle.
Emergency disaster relief services soup maker
Purchasing ingredients for soup-making; creating wholesome and nutritious soups or stews; cleaning up TSA kitchen after use; putting away utensils, pots and pans, and other supplies in their proper storage place.

Thrift store and Christmas kettles

Thrift store volunteer
To assist and support the general operation of the Thrift Stores.
Kettle volunteer
To collect donations with a pre-assigned kettle at a specified location for a scheduled shift. Must be dressed appropriately representing The Salvation Army. Will receive donations from the general public.
Kettle volunteer administration
To help raise funds for the food bank, Produce Line, Lunch Program and Emergency Material Assistance. To help setup kettle location calendars and maintains a schedule of existing volunteers for the kettle campaign.

Christmas kettles

The Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Campaign is a powerful way to support those in need during the Christmas season.

Funds raised locally stay on the Sunshine Coast, helping provide essentials like food, clothing, and shelter to individuals and families in our community.
